What is IT outsourcing, and what do companies usually outsource?

IT outsourcing means handing work such as system development, maintenance, server management and security to an external team. There are three common types: project outsourcing (commissioning a new system), operations outsourcing (handing over maintenance, monitoring and patching of an existing system), and long-term outsourcing (one team builds the system and keeps running and extending it after launch). When choosing a vendor, these matter more than price: whether they have built similar systems, how handover and documentation work, who is responsible after launch, and whether they can meet your security and audit requirements.

Real projects Long-term outsourcing projects

From takeover or launch, years of work.

These are projects we actually run. The value of outsourcing shows after launch: regulations, workflows and the business keep changing, and the system needs someone to keep caring for it and improving it.

What we do What you can outsource

Development, maintenance, servers and security, with one team.

Outsource everything, or just one part. We start from the roles you keep in-house and agree on who does what.

01 BUILD

Development outsourcing

From requirements, specs and prototypes to staged delivery. We have built management systems, apps, websites and e-commerce.

02 TAKEOVER

Taking over existing systems

Even when the original vendor is gone and documents are missing: code audit and environment setup in 1–2 weeks, and full command of the system within a month.

03 OPS

Server and system management

Day-to-day management of servers, databases and deployments, with monitoring alerts, backups and version updates.

04 SECURITY

Security testing and audit support

Separate development, test and production environments; fixes for every item in vulnerability scans and penetration tests; development following ISO 27001 processes.

05 SUPPORT

5×8 to 7×12 support

Business-hours support, or extended hours every day from 09:00 to 21:00, including weekends and holidays.

06 HANDOVER

Documentation and handover

We fill in architecture diagrams, database structures and deployment notes, so knowledge of the system does not live in one engineer's head.

In-house or outsource Build a team, hire contractors or outsource

In-house IT, staff augmentation or full outsourcing?

Most companies mix them: key decisions stay in-house, while development and operations go to an external team.

ApproachBest forWatch out for
In-house IT teamThe system is a core advantage and needs are long-term and steadyHiring and retention are costly, and knowledge breaks when people leave
Staff augmentation / on-site contractorsSomeone in-house can lead and you only lack handsManagement and quality stay your responsibility, and every departure means a new handover
Full outsourcingYou have few IT staff and need someone accountable for results and life after launchPick a team that stays, and put deliverable documents, support hours and security requirements in the contract

Process How we work

Review first, then agree on roles and price.

Outsourcing goes wrong when scope and responsibility are vague. We first clarify the current system and who does what, and every stage ends with something you can sign off.

  1. STEP 01

    Current state review

    1–2 weeks

The systems to outsource, who maintains them now, whether source code and documents exist, and your security and audit requirements.

  2. STEP 02

    Scope and roles

    Depends on scope

Which parts of development, operations and server management we take on, plus support hours and response process, written into the quote and contract.

  3. STEP 03

    Takeover or build

    Per project

For an existing system we audit the code, set up environments and fix basic bugs; a new system is built and accepted in stages.

  4. STEP 04

    Long-term operations

    Ongoing after launch

Monitoring, patching and version updates, with features adjusted as regulations and the business change. The same team stays responsible.

FAQ Common questions

IT outsourcing FAQ

Can you meet FSC rules for IT outsourcing in finance?

Yes. Capital Investment Trust describes us as an IT development partner that meets FSC standards, and we have helped complete security adjustments and audits under FSC rules. Every institution has its own regulations and internal policies, so we go through them item by item with your IT and compliance contacts at the start.

Our current vendor is stopping. Can you take over?

Yes. We have taken over more than 100 legacy systems. Code audit and environment setup usually take 1–2 weeks, and within a month we have full command of the system and have fixed basic bugs. If documents are missing, we add architecture diagrams and notes during the review.

Can we outsource only operations and keep development in-house?

Yes, or the other way around: we build the system and hand operations back to your team after launch. We first agree on roles, access rights and handover documents, then put them in the contract.

How are support hours and response handled?

Support ranges from 5×8 (business hours) to 7×12 (every day, 09:00–21:00), chosen by how critical the system is and when it peaks. The response process is written into the contract.

How is maintenance priced after outsourcing?

There are two common models: a monthly fee (fixed, including a set number of change hours) or pay per request. A monthly plan is usually about 10%–15% of the development cost per year, depending on system complexity, how old the technology is and the support hours.

Who owns the source code and documents?

We recommend the contract spells out how source code and technical documents (architecture, database structure, deployment notes) are delivered and who owns them, so a future change of vendor does not get stuck. We confirm each item with you before signing.
